Why Israel? Bible study series (by Rev. Dr. John Tweedie)

Why Israel? is an 8 segment (each approximately 35 minutes in length) teaching series featuring Rev. Dr. John Tweedie - Chairman, Christians for Israel Canada.

Available in DVD format, and suitable for individual or group study, the series was produced in professional T.V. studios in Canada and on location in Israel. The teaching units include first person interviews, images of life in Israel past and present, and cover important topics such as:

Does God still have a special love for Israel?
Are God's covenants with Israel valid today?
Are Jews still 'the chosen' and, if so, for what purpose?
What is the relationship between Israel and the Church?
Does anti-Semitism exist in the Church?
Who are the true Palestinians?
When will Jesus physically return to Jerusalem?
What did Jesus mean when He spoke of the 'Signs of the Times?'

The Why Israel? series examines Old Testament prophecies in the light of New Testament teaching, particularly Jesus' words about the end of the age and the signs in the world which would signal His return.

How do I use it?

For individual study:
The Participant’s Guide will allow you to take a step by step, scripture by scripture, exciting journey into God’s heart concerning Israel – land and people – past, present and future. Each unit builds on the one before. By the end of the series, you will understand why the Jews are referred to as the ‘Chosen People’, why Israel is constantly in the headlines, and what God’s glorious future holds for these people who have suffered so much throughout history. Each guide contains space for note taking and a way of remembering the significant insights you have gained.

For group study
A special Facilitator’s Guide has been prepared. We refer to it as a Facilitator’s Guide because it has been designed for those who may not have an extensive knowledge of the Bible and who otherwise might be hesitant to lead a group. The Facilitator’s Guide contains background information and helpful insights for each teaching unit so that a facilitator is well prepared for the discussion that follows the screening of each unit . The facilitator will have a set of specific questions (and answers) designed to give focus to the group discussion.

For church study
Because ‘ Why Israel’ offers a step by step overview of Israel in scripture and in history, Pastors may wish to use it as an 8 week special ‘Focus on Israel’ for the whole church. For example, the teaching units are ideal as a study offered over 8 consecutive Sunday evening and/or mid-week services. The overview of scripture, first person interviews, and the visual images of Israel past and present, provide a wonderful way for church members to understand why God entered into a covenant relationship with only one nation on earth. Having viewed the unit teaching, the Pastor could use the Facilitator’s Guide to lead the congregation in an open discussion. Alternatively, the congregation could disperse into several small groups facilitated by others. In either case, participants could use their own guide to record significant insights as they grow in their understanding of God’s heart for Israel.
